Nature Fake Illusions: A Contemporary Jewelry Collection

Exploring the Paradox of Materialization

With each upcoming decade, Earth faces more danger and destruction, while our socio-cultural environment becomes reshaped at an alarming pace, making us question the future of physical life on the planet and the resourcefulness of humanity. Surrounded by artificial products and experiences, this collection of jewelry contemplates the paradox of materialization of natural forms by synthetic materials.

Perceiving cold beauty in interiors and objects of everyday use may feel empty, lacking the warmth and depth of real natural forms and materials. The Nature Fake Illusions jewelry collection expresses these inner feelings. Slovak designer Annamaria Mikulik has created a series of pieces that are soft and smooth, reminiscent of real flower petals, with delicate forms that look natural and highlight the beauty of the wearer. However, the material used is artificial, emphasizing the concept of the collection.

Mikulik's jewelry collection is inspired by nature while uncovering the world's warning statistics about replacing true nature with fake illusions. In today's demographics and consumerist culture, the loss of natural balance is evident. Society encourages us to slowly forget the real scent of plants or the taste of unmodified food, as the media ingrains our systems to prefer imitations of reality. The Nature Fake Illusions jewelry makes a powerful reference to this phenomenon.

The collection, created in 2015, has gained recognition in the industry and has been featured in magazines like AUTOR and iGNANT. It has also been presented at various international events, including TRENDBOOK 2020, a publication by Trendvision forecasting that deepens the knowledge of the jewelry industry and shapes forward-thinking strategies. TrendBook 2020 monitors historical and social changes, analyzing how they will influence jewelry forecasting trends.

Besides its aesthetic function, modern jewelry remains an important messenger of the wearer's personal philosophy. The Nature Fake Illusions collection points out that there is a natural beauty out there, different from the enhanced beauty we have become accustomed to. It highlights the weirdness of perceiving natural ingredients that have maintained their natural beauty. This jewelry not only makes an authentic statement but also serves as a fancy communication channel.

The creation of the Nature Fake Illusions collection presented its own set of challenges. The hardest part for Mikulik was creating the prototype molds, ensuring that the delicate forms and textures were accurately captured in the final pieces.

Recipient of the Bronze A' Design Award in 2019, the Nature Fake Illusions collection has been recognized for its outstanding and creatively ingenious designs that authenticate experience and resourcefulness. Esteemed for incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology, these pieces exhibit strong technical and creative skills and contribute to quality of life improvements, making the world a better place.
